Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How is correspondence training carried out?
There is a textbook for each course. It
contains the chapters to study, questions and answers as well as an
examination at the end of each textbook (QCM), which must be
sent to your tutor. You will then move on to the following course and
follow the same procedures. At the AMCC, you remain in constant
contact with your tutor, who will assist you throughout your entire
training.
What are the programs offered?
We are offering complete basic programs as Holistic Nutrition and Natural Health Practitioner. The latter one can be completed in distinct levels: Natural Health Consultant, Educator, Technician and Practitioner. Three additional specialisation options are also offered: Naturopathy,
Bioenergetics and Homeopathy. Each of these specialisation options can be completed in distinct levels as well. Several courses make up each level, and the training may be interrupted at any level without having to go on to the following level. Each successfully completed level provides you with a diploma and merit-based grant, which is applied to the following level of training.
May I register for one course only?
Yes. You may choose a course or a theme (a
group of 2 or 3 courses). In this case, if the course (or theme) is
successfully completed, you will not be required to do it twice,
should you eventually decide to register for a program. A
successfully completed course (or theme), enables you to obtain an
attestation as well as a merit-based grant.

I don't live in Canada. Can I still enrol in the AMCC's distance learning
program?
Yes! That's precisely the point of distance
learning: you can study from anywhere in the world. Your
courses are sent to you by internet or postal mail, while help &
tutoring are provided by phone or e-mail! Whether you're in India,
China, Australia, the United States, or any other country in the
world, you will still benefit from the same quality distance learning
courses that the AMCC has always been known to provide.
What is the length of a course?
The length of a course depends on two
factors: the estimated number of hours of study required for each
course (which is reflected in the number of credits for each course)
and the amount of time that each student can devote to a course. Let
us mention that there are 45-hour courses (3 credits) and 90-hour
courses (6 credits). For example, if you study 7 or 8 hours per week
for a 45-hour course, you can expect to complete the course and
evaluation (exam) in approximately 6 weeks.
Is there a time limit?
No, providing that the limit is reasonable.
When receiving a course, you must contact your tutor and decide on a
date at which you will hand in your work. You can benefit from an
extension if unforeseen events prevent you from handing in your work
at the set date. This method has a major advantage: you may change
your pace of study every 6 to 12 weeks, according to the amount of
time you have.
What is the length of complete training?
According to the same method of calculation
as for a 45 or 90-hour course, the number of hours of study required
for each course in the program is divided by the time devoted to
study. For example, the Naturopathy program has 90 credits, i.e.
1350 hours. If you plan to study 10 hours per week, you should expect
that your studies would take approximately 3 years to complete. The
length of training varies according to each student, as it depends on
availability and individual abilities.
How
are exams conducted?
Correspondence training requires constant
monitoring of knowledge, and the AMCC’s examinations are specially
designed for this purpose. Each course includes an examination to be
taken at home, as well as a final assignment at the end of the program. If your
program has 17 courses, you will be required to
submit 17 evaluations to your tutor. Moreover, for each evaluation,
you will receive a new grade report indicating the courses that have
been completed, the number of hours of study, your grades and overall
average.
What
happens if I fail an exam?
You must obtain a grade of at least 60% to
successfully complete a course. As in most educational institutions,
you may repeat the course if you fail. After two failures, if your
overall average is sufficient (60%), you will be required to study the
entire course again and take the exam. If your general average is too
low, your tutor will contact you and a change of orientation or program
may be considered.
Are
AMCC courses recognised?
Federal Government: the
training is registered by Human Resources Development Canada as
professional training; tuition fees are tax deductible (Federal and
Provincial).
Provincial Government: the
AMCC received a certificate of approval from Emploi
Québec as a training institution. It will therefore be possible
for your employer to cover your training fees, as they will be
deducted from his or her contributions.
Professionals of the trade: the
training is recognised by the ANN (Association
Nationale des Naturopathes et Naturothérapeutes).
The AMCC is currently accredited by:
Let us mention that the CMDQ (AMCC) was
established in 1988, and that it has received all possible forms of
legal recognition in this sector. Recognition by other groups
(associations, unions, corporations, etc.) offers nothing more, since
these are private groups that are not regulated by government or trade
organisations.
I be able to give receipts to my clients for insurance purposes?
Once you receive your diploma, you may choose
to become a member of the ANN (Association Nationale des Naturopathes et Naturothérapeutes) or
another serious professional association; this will enable you to give
receipts so that your clients may be refunded by their private
insurance companies.
How
do I pay the tuition fees?
When registering, you must include a first down payment covering
a certain percentage of the tuition fees; the remaining amount
is then divided into monthly or quarterly payments, spread out
over the length of the training (see the appropriate Deferred Payments
for Canadian or International Residents from the "HowtoSucceed" guide,
available for download). Monthly payments begin the second month
following registration. Please note that instalments should correspond
approximately to the pace of study. If you plan to study at a quicker
pace than most students (8 hours of study per week), you will progress
more rapidly and therefore should expect to pay a higher monthly
instalment than the one suggested by the AMCC. The office of the
registrar at the AMCC will assist you in these matters, while taking
your budget into consideration.
How
do I pay from abroad
Apart from the Canadian dollar, the AMCC
accepts payments in American dollars, French francs, Euros and Swiss
francs. For your down payment, you may provide us with a cheque from
your bank. For following payments, we shall provide you with our
statement of account information for bank transfers or monthly direct
debit. For all other cases, please contact the AMCC directly.
After
having completed a course, must I wait for the following course?
No, because the AMCC monitors your
progression and forwards the relevant courses to you in advance, in
order for you not to have to delay your studies.
Who
do I ask questions to?
A tutor will be assigned to you at the
beginning of your studies, in the language of your choice (French or
English). The role of the tutor is to answer your questions and remain
in constant contact with you via e-mail, telephone or mail. Please
note that e-mail will provide you with immediate answers.
Are
there training sessions?
Presently, the AMCC offers optional workshops
in Montreal only. However, if you live in a distant area or abroad,
you may contact a practitioner near you and ask the College to contact
him or her, in order to make arrangements for training sessions.
Please note that the courses require many clinical studies and that it
will soon be possible for us to provide you with textbooks with
clinical studies at every level of your training.
How
do I register at the AMCC?
You must first take note of the code of the
desired course or program, as well as tuition fees. For all programs, this information can be found on our website under
“training”. In the “students’ guide” received by mail, this
information is found on the reverse side of the application form.
You must then fill in the required
information on the application
form, which is found on our website under “Registration”,
print out the two pages and mail the form with the required documents
to the address indicated on the form.
If needed, inquiries can be made by e-mail or
telephone before registering.
What
should I send with my registration form?
You must attach a handwritten letter
indicating your reasons for choosing the program, a brief
description of your academic and professional background, a curriculum
vitae if available, a cheque covering the down payment and
administration fees as well as any other document which is deemed
important (copy of diploma, evidence related to a request for
exemption, etc.).
What
are the conditions of admission?
At the AMCC, we make a distinction between
conditions for admission and prerequisites. For conditions for
admission, the candidate must have sufficient academic training, a
university education or two years of college (CEGEP in Quebec) in order to take
the program. For adults, in certain cases, professional experience
or motivation may replace the required academic level.
As for prerequisites, the AMCC offers
courses in anatomy and physiopathology (fundamental subjects) to
students who have not taken such courses. At certain periods of the
year, these courses are offered free of charge by members of our
graduates’ association. Please note that nurses and other health
professionals are automatically admitted to the program but may
choose to take the courses anyway.
What if my application is refused?
Admission is a privilege granted to a
candidate whose interests and abilities are suited to this sector of
activity. Academic training does not automatically guarantee
admission. Should the candidate’s application be refused, the AMCC
will return all documents and payments (except for administration
fees), and provide the reason for refusing the application.
What
if I abandon the training?
The rules of the AMCC state that you may
interrupt your training at each level, without penalty. You are
responsible for paying for the level in progress but not for levels
that you have not yet begun. You may also obtain the diplomas that
correspond to the successfully completed levels.
Is
there financial assistance?
A number of our students have received
financial help and tax benefits:
-
If you suffer from work-related injuries
and depend on the CSST (Quebec’s commission for work-related
accidents) or another government retraining program:
-
Your agent may accept to pay for a
professional retraining program. You must gather the appropriate
documents and be prepared to insist on an agreement. In this case, the
College will directly collect fees related to the training. You will
be required to study full-time. The College administration can help
you gather all the necessary documents.
Lower your taxes :
You can reduce your federal and provincial
taxes by deducting training fees from your income on your annual tax
declaration. You may be required to prove that these fees are related
to studies aimed at improving your knowledge in a professional
context. The College issues receipts in February of each year.
Study grants :
In general, government grants are offered for
studies in institutions which are recognised by the Ministry of
Education only.
The College automatically awards merit-based
grants for each successfully completed course. This amount is deducted
from the cost of the next level.
The Ministry offers study grants in New
Brunswick.
Should you need help, the College can provide
you with information by telephone.
If you receive unemployment insurance or
social welfare from the Canadian government :
Your employment centre can offer you certain
advantages (prolonged employment insurance benefits, help towards
insertion into the work force, etc.) according to your case, in virtue
of the fact that the College is certified as a professional training
institution and registered with Human Resources Development Canada.
However, your training must be full-time (minimum of 30 hours per
week).
